Let some of the paths be dirt…

“Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt.” – John Muir

Cheerio! Friends! What happens when you get too busy to blog you have to let the pictures tell the story. We’ve had a bountiful couple of weeks in the Rockies. Fun with family and friends living out the motto Life is Grand!

Someone is a fan of Nee Nee’s spaghetti 🍝

As for the craft cocktails and foodie fare…

Finally feeling like….

Where everybody knows your name…

All your life, you will be faced with a choice. You can choose love or hate…I choose love.
Johnny Cash

We’ve been in town a week and most of the shopkeepers, barkeeps, burger and taco maestros know us by name. Kind of like our own version of Cheers! Easy to choose Love.

Evergreen is sweet! Cool eateries and shops and plenty of places to hike and get out of doors!! On a whim, we got some of the last Jimmy Buffet tickets and saw him Live at Red Rocks, a spectacular Amphitheatre in Morrison with maybe 10,000 steps to get to your seat. The crowd ranged from young to old parrot 🦜 heads and the green is good legal lifestyle in Colorado was a real second hand event! Haha

Like most of my blogs, we’re just having fun, spreading our wings and loving life in a different locale!

And lastly….

Cheers 🥂 from the mountain 🏔 top! N&J

The winds of change…

A light wind swept over the corn, and all nature laughed in the sunshine. – – -Anne Bronte

Change of pace, change of scenery, change of address for a little bit. Sunday dawn has graced our mountain top and true to its name the Evergreen 🌲 of Colorado sings a sweet song to our soul. And this Mama 🐻 ❤️beats with a peace and joy now being closer in to my youngest cub.

Our travels cross country were adventurous and fun. 1700 miles in 2 1/2 days pit stopping in Louisville KY and Hays KS. Friday lunch in Denver and a walk about Curtis Park before heading west to Evergreen teeing up mountain living. Our first day guests (besides the chipmunks) were our friends from El Paso. We immensely enjoyed the day w the Flaherty’s hanging on the sun deck, hiking @ the property and feasting for dinner at Maya Cantina down the mountain in town. Always the best blessing to connect w friends you live far away from and picking up right where you left off. ❤️

Today we’ll head to Evergreen 🌲 lake to hike and take in some boat 🚣‍♀️ activity. Wherever you are today, take a deep, rich breath of fresh air and thank God for this spectacular Sunday!

Cheers 🥂 from the mountain top!

Bridges across Ohio River Louisville, KY
So happy to be w these two! ❤️

Mile high living….

We blew in with the snow across western Kansas right into colorful Colorado. We met up with 18 degrees our first morning and woke up to a winter wonderland.

Andrew is living in the Five Points area of Denver, home base to lots of cool breweries and great eats even though most is outdoor seating and take out. Has not hindered this vacationing trio.

Sam even made some new friends…

Having lots of fun with Peyton…check out these cityscapes from her rooftop patio and our hike near Golden, CO today.

Left out o dark thirty, day after Christmas 🎄 final destination, Denver, Colorado. We figure 2.5 days open roading it we’ll get there. Hauling a Santa sleigh of lamps, end tables, snowboard, various and sundry mom deemed necessities from home to our Andrew who has just settled into his new job in Denver. First rest stop was 18 degrees outside 🥶, but we enjoyed a spectacular winter wonderland through WVA. Crossed both the Ohio and Missouri rivers, visited the home of the Louisville slugger, had an art experience of a masked David (whoa) and enjoyed a yummy evening at a 21c Museum Hotel. Day 2 is our long haul across the middle as we are currently cruising through KC MO. Goal is to pit stop tonight in Hays, Kansas where pit cooked pulled pork is a regional (and Johnny Legg) fav.

Cheers 🥂 from the open road! n&j ❤️

Southern Wedding north of the border 🥂

“You look good wearing my future.”

from the movie, “Some Kind of Wonderful”

Royal gardens, a breezy 75 degree afternoon, and an intimate collection of best friends and family.

With whirlwind flight travels from NC, we flew in ✈️ late morning, combatted formula 1 🏎 race traffic between the Toronto airport and our hotel downtown. Luckily as we arrived starving, popped into the hotel restaurant and had the most delightful fortune of running into our great friends, the Butlers and were able to lunch together… a fabulous start to our wedding jaunt getaway!

The first of the “Fab Five” to tie the knot. One of our son Jack’s best buds, Douglas Cameron married his Canadian born lass, Alexandria (Allie) in a beautiful outdoor ceremony nestled amidst lush hydrangeas and Queen Anne’s lace in Hamilton, Ontario’s Royal 👑 Gardens.

Then we celebrated with dinner, poutine! And dancing in the glass orangery in the adjacent Royal Rock Garden. The bride and groom were generously and loving toasted by the best man, maid of honor, and their parents. So thankful to be part of this event, making memories, celebrating 🥳 this milestone for those of us that have watched these boys grow into fine young men.

And since Toronto was a destination wedding, we stayed over with our great friends to enjoy the city. First off, we jumped in the car and drove to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. Any road trip is usually an adventure but taking one in another country always makes for fun and side splitting laughter when you ride with Autry and Johnny as pilot and copilot.

Cool nighttime cityscape from our hotel room.

Toronto has been dubbed NYC of Canada, and yes there are some big city similarities. Great sites, eats, interesting people everywhere, especially these peeps!

Monday morning walk through Chinatown, visit to a Cannabliss store….no purchases thank you! Just satisfying my curiosity.

part of a Netflix movie set filming Sunday morning.how did they know?I really had to peddle…no help from guy in the second seat…

fun looking bars1670!City Hall and a small Chapel wedged behind our hotel…

No trip to Toronto would be complete without a fancy lunch at the 360 revolving restaurant 1500 feet up in the CN Tower. Spectacular views bottom to top.

glass bottom view is a longgggg way down!

Next up Harbor Tour of the Toronto Islands..

CN (Canadian National RR) Tower view from harbor. Built for RR communications and observation tower is the 9th tallest freestanding structure in the world topping at 1813 feet.

Royal Canadian Yacht Club founded 1852 is one the world’s oldest and largest yacht clubs.

One of the most unusual things we experienced was a truly unisex bathroom…a stall for all!

(Photo cred and idea, Autry)

The last half day John boy and I visited Casa Loma, castle built by early utilities magnate Henry Pellatt. Not quite the scale of our Biltmore House but grand living in it’s time.

Bidet back in the day…

Oh the Veuve!! 🥂🍾

A few more interesting sites on our walk back downtown and later out to the airport.

Foxie always checks in somehow on our travels. This Buds for you!remember Molson 🍺beer ?

Then of course din din at One Flew South, Concourse E Atlanta airport!

Cheers Douglas and Allie! Thanks for sharing your wedding with your friends and giving us the opportunity to explore greater Toronto!

Until next time! 🥂 n&j

Shredding it ⛷

Powder perfect, sunshine ☀️ and 36 degrees! God made this a Sunday super funday for Beaver Creek Colorado skiing. Got a lot of runs in, then a tasty soup and sandwich back at the condo for lunch. Wrapped the afternoon as the very last peeps on the chairlift to the top. Not without incident though, John boy flipped his lid and skis coming in a little too hot 🥵 Luckily, just a small cut on his wrist and a tight calf muscle. But Jean Claude still has it!

“Skiing is a dance, and the mountain always leads.” —snow slang (attributed)

All along our travels, we continue to find delish food and drink. Only hope the ambitious skiing can cut into the cals! Haha. Thermometer gonna dip back down to single digits again tonight, good evening to order in and wine 🍷 down by the fire.

Ta Ta for now! Cheers 🥂 from Rocky Top!

Western life lives on…

I’ve said goodbye to Tucson and hello to Denver.

Then goodbye 👋 to Denver. We headed out and abruptly due to a major rockslide on I 70 West, we were rerouted north though Steamboat Springs, got to see a WHOLE lot of Colorado we haven’t seen before. Bought a lottery ticket in some no name town we stopped for petrol refuel. Lo and behold, I won $200 on a scratch off!

7 hours later Hello 👋 to Snowmass.

“I’m not following anybody’s tracks, I’m making my own baby.” —Picabo Street

We had an amazingly productive day on the slopes ⛷ considering we haven’t had a pair of skis on since 07! 😱 No spills or injury, held our own. Yoga 🧘‍♀️ works people!!! Rode the first gondola 🚠 up with pro golfer Justin Leonard and his kids. He even pointed out some easier runs for the reinventing snow bunnies/busters.

John in repose at the St Regis.

Took the shuttle over to Aspen for drinks and dinner among the locals. After drinks at St Regis and Hotel Jerome, we hope to catch a hotdog 🌭 cart for din din.

Ended up at Aspen’s version of Mi Casita…Mi Chola…hilarious some of the St Regis crowd is dining here as well! When in Rome…

Cheers 🥂! N&J

Ranch life in the desert 🌵

An 1880’s cattle ranch to spiritual retreat…

I love the combination of old wagon wheel, rustic wooden sign with solar panel lighting source on top. Preservation meets innovation meets transformation.

A good mantra for supporting a well nourished spirit.

Our retreat is a step back from current life pace, offering a rugged and picturesque expanse to breathe, stretch, and soul search. Many of you inquire about my annual trek west for yoga. What do you do for 5 days? On a remote ranch in Oracle, AZ?

For starters…unwind.

It’s less about yoga and more about the breath and quiet. But also laughter and creativity, reunion with old friends and making new ones. Experiencing this peaceful setting of the American Southwest against the backdrop of the Catalina Mountain range. There is sunrise yoga and expansive afternoon yoga, morning workshop activities and evening art projects. In between, free time to hike around the ranch, journal, read, nap 😴.

A stand of Saguaro soldiers…

Southern girl happy 😃 ….cheese grits 😋

Quiet 🤫 time is observed from 9:30 at night until 10:30 am workshop. Wonderful for self reflection and spending time alone, you doing you. How often do we ever spend time silent and still, giving God a chance to speak in divine whispers to the heart and soul?

A new day is on the rise….

I’m listening with intention…..

Namaste 🙏❤️ peeps!

Unabashedly Zen for One

Relax. Nothing’s missing.

Well I escaped the polar vortex and made my way out to glorious, sunny Tucson, AZ. My annual yoga 🧘‍♀️ pilgrimage retreat, respite, to get my rejeuve and re groove on. Decadently am sneaking in a day early to enjoy Dove Mountain resort before landing at the C.O.D. Ranch. Yes, I have been greeted with desert 🌵 decorated desserts in my room! Queen Bee 🐝, fabu to be me! Lounge lizard by the pool soaking in 75 beautifully warm degrees here this afternoon. The word you may be searching for is Jelly! Just kidding, always a blessing to experience the Southwest, especially nice when fleeing old man winter back east. Stay tuned for more travel news from yoga land and then Colorado with John boy next week to see if slightly past prime time couple can still make it down a slope 🎿 ⛷! Cheers 🥂 my friends!
